Dave and I have been working prison ministry, for years now, And one of the questions that we always hear from Christian addicts are;
Will God take me back, and how do I find my way back after all the years of drug and alcohol abuse?
When a addict hits bottom, wants to know, where was God when I went through all this, And will he now forgive me.
Many have prayed that God would deliver them from the cravings.
They have sought spiritual healing, they have read God's word
And yet the prayers seemed to have fallen on deaf ears, and now they seem to be left with unanswered questions, doubts, even anger towards God.
When the addict looks upon the destruction they have caused in their own life and the lives of those they love .
It is hard to imagine that there could be forgiveness, for such a seeming deliberate act.
Friends and family have turned away.
And it would be natural to assume that God would also would do the same and reject them .
Even after years of repeated and deliberate sin, there is hope for you.
The Effects of Sin - Sin is the great separation between you and God,
We know that our actions were wrong, We knew they was wrong when we committed them,
yet we could not stop..
But God is never so far away that He cannot be reached by the sinner who truly desires Him.
Romans 3;23- For All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
No one understood better than the Apostle Paul, about the the tug of war between knowing what we should do and what the flesh compels us to do.
Jesus Christ shown His greatest gift, and grace, when he died on the cross for our sins.
This is the greatest hope for the addict, He died for you, If he did not want you back.
He never would of died for the sinners, all of us on the cross.
The beauty is that through the death of Jesus Christ, on the cross you have been given the power, through grace, to be set free, and again draw near to Him.
Most people are paralyzed by their own guilt and doubts, and fear of the judgement from God
The fact is Jesus has borne your sins,
Now it is time to honor his suffering and death on the cross by believing and living in the truth.
Forgiveness in God and restoration of fellowship with Him, is not a matter of brushing sin under the rug, as in John 1;8-9
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
What is the first step repentance, this means turning away, from sin that has taken over, your life.
Easier said then done? remember the power is not in you, but in Christ.
Despite former failed attempts you can claim the promise of;
2 Corinthian 5;17- If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, The old has passed away. behold the new has come.
Confession-While God sees everything, it is important to go to him honestly, starting a personal relationship with Him, then you are never alone, always be in prayer
Peace with God- John 1;12-To all who did receive Him , who did believe in his name he gave the right to become children of God,
And that is what you are, a child of God, The doubting , guilty thoughts will plague you as you seek recovery, memorizing the promises of the scriptures is your best defense
The road ahead. Thought the road ahead may look daunting , there is victory for you in Christ, He makes all things new, relationships will be restored, and old hurts and wrongs can be healed
**You cannot know why you went through what you did , but you can be assured that your addiction could of been the tool that reconnected you with God.
Philippians 3;13-14-But one thing I do.. forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ
The fact is if we are addicted , the addiction becomes our comfort zone ,
And we fear, coming out of our comfort zone
Comfort zones develop after we have done things a particular way for a period of time
The Unfortunate part, we can feel so comfortable, we never want to change.
So we keep doing the same wrong things over and over.
If we ever want our lives to be any different from the same old baloney,
we keep feeding ourselves, then we must break the chains that binds us
Apostle Peter was about to break through his comfort zone by stepping out of a boat, and walking on water.
And his thought was if Jesus can then so can I.
But before Peter could walk on the water he had to get out of the security of the boat.
**We break out of our comfort zone by refusing to listen to our fears
Fear is the big, black door that keeps us trapped inside our comfort zones .
Fear will keep us in the boat , never stepping out in faith
The biggest critics we have will be those who stayed in the boat
Question what if I step out and it does not work? Fear of failure.........
I would rather to fail trying to do something than succeed at doing nothing
Failure is not falling down, failure is staying down when you have the chance to get back up
Proverbs 24;16-For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again
When we decide to get out of our comfort zone, And step away from addiction, We can never take our eyes off Jesus, or as Peter we might start to sink in the water.
Question can I do this alone?
NO- This going to be a long road
Please contact one of the numbers listed below......make the choice....start walking on the water with Faith, and trust in God.....
